Europe's Power Companies Leading the 'Energy Transition'

Something remarkable is happening in Europe. Study the investor presentations and reports of all the major power companies in Europe and you’d think that Europe is powered only by renewable energy sources! Great strides are being made with investments across the board in wind, solar, hydro, biomass energy sources. As striking as the progress being made in Europe is……… the investor information is very clever in that you’ll struggle to find any mention of oil fired power stations, little mention of gas fired power stations and coal fired powers stations only mentioned in connection with their complete phase out. Use of the phrase ‘Thermal Power’ covers all those ‘evils’!. The ‘Energy Transition’ is really an ‘Energy Revolution’ in Europe with major infrastructure changes which include electicity storage ‘farms’ ie batteries, in the mix, to allow the power companies to balance intermittent power production - a feature of renewables - with fluctuating power demand. The days of power load balancing by just turning up or down gas fired power stations to meet demand fluctuations is well behind us!
